To be honest, we used to be afraid of atheists ...

I live in the midwest of the US. People here think you're insane being an atheist and will try to shove their religion down your throat. For the most part, we don't talk about it unless we know where another person stands on the subject. To be honest, we used to be afraid of atheists, but in our experience now, since our eyes have been opened, atheists are the ones I fear the least. We used to be Jehovah's Witnesses and were taught that atheists were evil, wicked, godless people with no morals. After we left, we looked into other religions and just stepped back to observe people, their belief systems and then weighed what they preached vs their actions. We started gravitating toward the atheists because we found them to be more open, compassionate, moral people. I felt they were more real and I could take them at face value. I hated the hypocrisy I saw in most religious people.
